The magnetic version of the School for Scoundrels Golden Shells is identical in design to our normal shell sets, but each shell contains a powerful rare-earth magnet. The use of magnets with the shells goes back many years to the 1930’s. Ours are the first to put magnets in both the pea and the shells, and to place the magnet in the front of the shell so that the pea can be rolled off the magnet and then be shown under the same shell.

The magnets are positioned at the front (pointed end) of each shell. When the shell is pulled back slightly it will pick up the magnetic pea. With practice, you should be able to tell if the magnet has engaged the pea—there is a detectable vibration.

If you then lift up, the shell can be shown empty. When the shell is put down on the mat again, the pea can be released by pushing the shell diagonally forward (slightly to either side). The pea is then rolled along the side of the shell until it is free of the magnet’s influence. The shell can be picked up to show the pea, or pushed forward to allow the pea to roll out the back of the shell and into the finger pinch.

The Perfect Magnetic Peas are identical to our working peas, but contain inside a rare-earth magnet about the size of a finishing nail head. These provide a secure and dependable grab onto any other magnet. Magnets hidden beneath a table, under a jacket hem, or behind a tie can become perfect droppers for these peas, making it easy to ring in a second pea for various ruses.
